[ it's a bit before noon, and there's some loud knocking (more like banging) on illidan's front door. hopefully, he's home so athena's visit isn't in vain! ]
[There's a bit of a delay in his response, and he sounds groggy. He totally didn't doze off. Nope.]
The door is open.
[The suite itself was surprisingly charming and probably far more classy than anyone would expect from Illidan's choice in living quarters.
Illidan could be found in the center of one of the rooms. The floor is littered with tomes, scrolls, parchment, and weird magic junk, which he is sluggishly sorting through in an attempt to clean up.]
What is it you want, child?
Edited (just noticed those pics were REALLY tiny :x) 2016-07-08 15:07 (UTC)
[ her footsteps definitely make a lot of sound when she enters and walks into the apartment. it takes her a while to actually respond too, as she takes in the interior. ]
I-- I was just wondering. If you found anything else about that place we went to.
[He unceremoniously dumps his pile of scrolls and such onto the table. Some of the scrolls roll off, and the parchment slipped onto the floor. but aside from kicking a scroll under the table he doesn't seem to care enough to do any more. He doesn't even bother to finish cleaning the remaining books and magic knick-nacks off the floor, and instead took a seat on a nearby bench, still waking himself up as he addressed her... sort of. He needed a minute to scowl at her for her question.]
How exactly would I have found anything else out?
[Granted, he hadn't exactly stuck around after the ordeal. Probably should have, if just to make it clear he hadn't noticed anything they hadn't.
He lets out a sigh and run a hand over his face. Right... this was Rei's... friend. He had to at least try not to be a terrible person.]
I saw nothing you did not, and I could not read any of the books. Aside from what information I got from the Priestess, I know little more than what you saw as well, and you likely know more than I.
[ her eyes follow one of the scrolls as it rolls onto the floor, but she looks back at him immediately to show that she's paying attention to him and did not get distracted at all. ]
Oh. Right. [ she bites her lip then. yeah, she definitely forgot that the guy's blind...! OOPS. ] Then I guess the answer is no! Hah... hah.
[ not that he can probably see her smile, but she tries to put up a sheepish smile to alleviate the awkward air around them. ]
[Did she really come here and expect him to feed her? Why would she think he would even had- Oh. Wait.]
Tyrande may have left some behind somewhere.
[He pushed himself up and with a wave of his hand the scrolls and tomes organized themselves. He lumbered his way into what appeared to be some sort of kitchen, that had not been used for some time, and awkwardly started rummaging around. Clearly he wasn't very familiar with the room at all, grumbling on about some damn woman who must have gone and rearranged everything on him.]
Who's Tyrande? [ she asks that as she follows him into the kitchen, watching his every move and observing it with careful intent. she'll at least help him out if he ever asks for it! ]
[ Illidan squirms trying to figure out the answer aside from "it's complicated". He starts to speak a few times but stops, before finally grumbling out an answer.]
My brother's mate.
[And he punctuates his statement by hurling a fireball at the wood stove to light it... while simultaneously throwing a little tantrum. Then he returned to rummaging through the cabinets and shelves. Not that he would ever ask for help or anything but there is a very tea-like container sitting next to a kettle on the counter.]
[ somehow, athena doesn't think that "my brother's mate" is all there is to it. she may be able to hear people's emotions, but with how gritty he sounded when he said that, she doesn't even need her ability to be able to figure out that there's something else there.
she grabs the kettle and the tea container, though, handing it to him. ]
She listens to no one, she is stubborn, absolutely impossible, and bullheaded, fierce, wild...
[The more her prattles on the softer his tone gets, the bitter edge of his voice gradually becoming more melancholy as he thinks about her. He still hated that he could never quite bring himself to hate her, or even stay angry at her for any amount of time.]
...and she is strong willed, passionate, graceful, truly one of the strongest individuals I have ever met... even together my brother and I could never stood a chance against her no matter what the contest...
[after a moment of properly depressing himself, he realizes he's still holding the tea container, and that he really didn't know what to do with it from there. ]
You do know how to prepare tea don't you? If you leave a blind man in charge of feeding you, you had better not expect anything good.
[ athena means it, too! and she can definitely hear the sentimentality in his tone, too. he must really like her, she thinks. ]
Where is she now, though? And I can prepare tea, don't worry! [ she takes the container from him and starts preparing the drink. don't worry, she won't burn your house down, illidan! ]
She's... no longer here... probably for the better. All she and I ever managed to do these days is argue.
[At least that's what he's telling himself to try and not brood on it. She already broke his heart once, it would be foolish to admit that he still worried for her, despite her feeling nothing for him. It's not like he's been dwelling on the rejection for the past ten thousand years or anything.
When she takes the tea, he's mildly relieved. He trusted her not to burn the place down- he did not trust himself in that regard.]
Good, I have not so much as touched a stove since before mankind existed on my world, and I had eyes of flesh then.
Well, that's no good. . . [ she starts heating up the water and looks over her shoulder to continue talking. ] She was living here too, wasn't she? It's not great living with someone and all you do is bicker.
[ she doesn't really know the full story, but she does want to! ]
[There's a moment he's quiet, and he takes a seat, slouching forward to rest his elbows on his legs.]
It was not so bad. She would... makes meals every so often, and I...
[He let out a sigh and looked down, ran a hand over the top of his head (as much as he could with those horns), and then let out an awkward chuckle to mask a slight wince on his part. Oh how to even put this?]
Our history is a long and complicated one.
[It was an invitation if she wanted him to go on about it, but he wasn't about the dump ten thousand years of complicated on her out of the blue.]
[ she turns to face him and leans on the counter as she waits for the water to boil. there's still a lot of time, so may as well not pay attention for now. (spoilers: athena isn't the best in the kitchen. this is a disaster.) ]
Well, we're friends. [ even though this is only the second time they've spoken to one another. ] You can tell me.
Tyrande, my brother, and I have known each other since we were children. When were were coming of age.... I... developed feelings for her. I strove to make myself worthy as a mate. I studied the arcane, my brother took up Druidism, and Tyrande was a novice priestess of Elune. I eventually earned myself a position as the personal sorcerer of one of the most prominent nobles of the time- but my world was soon after invaded by the Burning Legion, an endless army of demons. I gained an opportunity to ask her to become my mate, but she turned me down for my brother.
And of course she wound up in the hands of the Legion, so I pretended to defect to their side. I gained valuable information, and they gifted me with demon vision. I managed to rescue Tyrande, and my brother and I managed to send the demons back from whence they came. After the war, I sought to prepare for the next coming of the Burning Legion, but my people saw my efforts as extreme. So while my brother was lauded as a hero I was locked away to rot for ten thousand years in a small prison.
I was released only when the Burning Legion returned, and, for Tyrande I agreed to destroy them. I made a sacrifice in doing so, I took this form after absorbing a great deal of demonic magic, but I repelled the invasion. My reward was banishment, with a life of fleeing the Legion for my betrayal to them as well...
I did not expect to see Tyrande again after that... and then she showed up here...
[Oh. Did he just... tell that entire story to an empath of some sort? Oh... well that's embarrassing... and probably not good for her health to be dealing with ten thousand years worth of his feelings. Not to mention that he's now panicking because he's got no idea how to handle sobbing children. To make it all worse, now he has to actually acknowledge he has feelings too.]
It's... it's fine. You don't have to do that.
[And he's just going to very awkwardly pat her on the head. It was usually a gesture he reserved for Rei, but it was really the only thing he could think of doing to comfort someone. He tried.]
[ a finger makes its way to her cheek and she scratches it as she laughs amiably. it's then that she turns to the stove to fix up everything that's needed for the tea, too. ]
I can't say I know what it's like, to have gone through the same things you have, but... I'm sorry. It obviously wasn't easy.

No, but I have no regrets. I do what I must. What happens to me matters not, as long as Azeroth remains safe from the Burning Legion.
[And by "Azeroth" he really means "Tyrande" because he is still preeetty salty over the whole ten thousand year imprisonment thing.]
